With the most recent Asphalt Industry Alliance Annual Local Authority road Maintenance (ALARM) Survey reporting visual defects in Briain’s road network having increased by 62% over the last 10 years, it can be said that the public are today more aware of the sorry state of deterioration of the nation’s roads. It came as no surprise therefore, when the Department of the Environment Transport and the Region (DETR) finally admitted the declining standards in the findings of its National Road Maintenance Condition Survey (NRMCS) for 2000.
